The secret ingredient to your wedding day timeline

Putting together your timeline can seem daunting at first.

Wedding planners and day of coordinators are a big asset in many ways.  They provide their experience in running events to assist you with creating a timeline for a day you have probably never had and maybe even never experienced.

Even if you aren’t utilizing a wedding planner, there is one secret that every photographer can tell you about.  This one thing will free up so much space in your timeline you will think that we magically added a couple extra hours to the day.

The First Look is our secret weapon.

I totally understand that there are some super traditional people out there that have been dreaming of that moment when you walk down the aisle and it’s the first time everyone sees you.  I also know that, if done right, a first look or reveal can be just as iconic of a moment if not more so.

The key to a first look that still has impact is hidden in the fact that we stage one of you in a beautiful, special spot.  Then, we get of the way and let the other sneak up behind.  With a little tap on the shoulder or a whisper in the ear, the “wow” moment is genuine and in our opinion even better than the one you see all the way at the opposite end of the aisle.

We make sure to capture that moment and the expression on both your faces as you see each other for the first time on your wedding day.

Once this moment is out of the way, you would be amazed how much tension is released from the whole day… especially the timeline!

Now, we can take your romantic couple pictures, your bridal party photos, and even sometimes the family formals.  With all these photos completed before the ceremony, there is time for you to actually attend your cocktail hour!  Without the first look, everyone is usually scrambling around to complete all of these photos in just one hour and you don’t get to enjoy cocktails and appetizers while mingling with all your guests.

This was a big thing I remember from our wedding day almost 10 years ago.  When we were planning the big day, we planned out special cocktails and tasted so many delicious hors d’oeuvres all of which we were really looking forward to on the wedding day.  Well, fast forward to our wedding and no first look… the cocktail hour flew by while we were taking photos and all those amazing treats we just completely missed out on.

So, if you want to learn from our mistake… set up a first look in your timeline with your photographer… then relax and enjoy your day!
