Our 10th anniversary trip to Hawaii got off to a great start in yesterday’s post. In case you missed it, go back and check it out here. Today we will wrap things up and look forward to our next of many more years. Kicking things off the way all vacations should… we got a great start with a couple’s massage. But this wasn’t your ordinary massage, this one was in a private little cabana just above the magical Maui coast. No calming tunes necessary here, just mother nature’s soundtrack of waves crashing and birds chirping. Combine that with the cool ocean breeze and a great pair of masseuses and this was a memorable start to the day.
To keep the day of relaxation going, we reserved a cabana with an epic view at our hotel pool. If you have never seen the layout of the pool area at Wailea Beach Marriott, then let me try to paint the picture for you. An open cabana hanging over the water with two lounge chairs with one of the best views in all of Hawaii. The pool stretching out from the cabana all the way to the infinity edge with unobstructed views of neighboring Hawaiian islands and the Molokini Crater giving way to the ocean stretching as far as the eye can see. Add in a couple rounds of beverages and some delicious Hawaiian eats and I was ready to spend the rest of the vacation here.
The following couple days were going to be a challenge to improve on the epic start we had. We began the day in search of something truly Hawaiian and unique to Maui. Following several recommendations from friends and locals we headed to Kihei Caffe for breakfast. This place was exactly what we were looking for. Great food and authentic Kona coffee both outdone by the perfectly Hawaiian service. After this start, either a nap or a walk were a required next step. With the amazing little community of Kihei spread out before us, we chose the latter.
On our final day on Maui, we saved the best for last. We made the trek up the Road to Hana and even kept going all the way around the island. When Josh heard about one of the best drives in the world this became a must do, and as soon as we got past Emma’s fears of everything going wrong, we were on our way. This is a very historic and famous road with tight twists and turns, one lane bridges, and some of the most breathtaking vistas we have ever seen in our lives. We made several stops along the way to find amazing waterfalls, taste the freshest pineapple imaginable, and bury our toes in pure black sand. Words really cannot do justice to this drive, so take a look at the photos and be sure to watch the videos to get a small taste of what the Road to Hana had to offer.
As wedding photographers going to one of the most beautiful places imaginable, we of course had to take some time throughout or trip to take some photos. We found some amazing spots and got so many pictures to keep these memories fresh in our minds. While it would be amazing to photograph a wedding here, we are both just ready to go back for any reason at all.
Take a look through the gallery and see why we are so ready.
Emma took some video of when Josh went to explore one of the hidden trails. It’s quite funny.
