Although they met at a friend’s party, Laurel did not live in Germany and her German was not that good. So, by the time Laurel and Thilo actually started talking and realized they were meant for each other, Laurel was headed back home. After surviving long distance dating and marathon Skype sessions, Laurel decided to join Thilo and move to Germany. Now that they are living in Germany, they have decided to honor Laurel’s roots and get married in Santa Barbara County. For most people, planning a wedding from 5,800 miles away would be too much. But not these two, with a firm understanding of Skype from their dating years, they knew they could tackle even this hurdle. We met them just this way, via Skype.
Watching them interact, regardless of if they are speaking German or English, instantly brings a smile to your face. So when they arrived in Santa Barbara and we scheduled their engagement session, we were very excited to meet them in person and see how they are with each other. It is actually inspiring.
We all headed out to Goleta Beach Park, just next door to the UC Santa Barbara campus. I remember gathering with friends and heading down to this beach from campus in my college days, so it wasn’t a surprise when Laurel, also a Gaucho alumni, chose this location for their engagement photos. It is an amazing location with relatively small waves, large tree-filled grassy areas, a sandy beach, and a pier all in the same park. As we walked around, taking in the views and enjoying the cool Santa Barbara summer air, we were constantly laughing and smiling as these two engaged.
This just epitomizes exactly what we love about Santa Barbara County. Happy couples in love, the warm sun and cool air, and a beautiful setting for any activity. Enjoy these Santa Barbara engagement photos.
