“Give your all to me
I’ll give my all to you
You’re my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I’m winning
‘Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you”
With lyrics like these, it’s no wonder why so many people think this will be the first dance song of the year.
But, people always surprise you.
These days, brides and grooms want to be unique. They want their wedding ceremonies to be original and meaningful. So, while nearly everyone we asked thought that John Legend’s current top 40 hit, “All of Me” would be on the short list of top first dance songs, we only have one couple actually dancing to this song.
After consulting with a few DJs in our circle of friends, they told us that there actually isn’t a lot of repetition in First Dance songs. Songs played during the reception outside of this romantic, iconic moment is a totally different story. Who hasn’t heard “Don’t Stop Believin'” or “Cupid Shuffle” at a wedding reception?
But it seems that couples want something that has a meaning to the two of them and their relationship and choose songs accordingly.
Personally speaking, for our First Dance (almost 10 years ago! my how time flies) we chose a meaningful song to the two us. Still to this day, when I hear it, I have a flashback to that beautiful moment with my amazing new wife and celebrating with all my loved ones.
I couldn’t even tell you what love song was most popular on the radio that year. Maybe that is why soon-to-be-weds choose the way they do. In 10 years, 20 years, even 50 years, they don’t necessarily want to remember the top song of the year they got married.
Instead, they want to remember a moment, when time stood still and they got to share a dance with the love of their life.
Here are a few of those moments we were lucky enough to be a part of. And an extra special one at the very end.
