Ambassador Mansions and Gardens | Skye + Sean

This weekend was weird!

That just means that Skye and Sean’s big day finally arrived.  We have been waiting for this for a while, but even more since their Disneyland engagement session.

These two were so much fun to be around and didn’t seem nearly as weird as they proclaimed.  Sure there were a few superhero jokes, Star Wars references, and some humor clearly crafted by writers.  But everything just seemed natural and beautiful as these two celebrated the joining of their families.

We met up with them at the Ambassador Mansions and Gardens in Pasadena.  We have shot a few weddings here, but each one has been unique.  The grounds are large and flexible, so it really allows the couple’s personalities to shine amongst the gorgeous backdrop.  The first thing that was non-traditional was the lack of floral.  This doesn’t mean there were no flowers, we were at the Ambassador Mansions and Gardens after all.  But, the wedding had all paper flowers.  From the bouquets and boutonnieres, made from comic book pages and novels, to the table tops flower arrangements, it was all paper flowers.

The ceremony was held on a bridge in the round so all their guests had a great view.  After the handfasting, and the vows and rings were exchanged, Skye and Sean sealed everything with a kiss and they became husband and wife.  From there, the party moved over to the koi pond area and we had the chance to capture their romantics all around the amazing Ambassador Campus.

As we finished up, the guests all headed into Fowler Garden for the festivities to begin.  The tables were decorated with old books, one of which was opened and a literary couple, from Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy to Katniss and Peeta, was written to direct guests to the right table.  With a dinner that included a mashed potato bar, there were many “weird” elements that seemed right at home.  One of our personal favorites was the ceremonial s’more instead of the cake cutting.  Now we love cake, but this was truly unique and delicious.  Taking advantage of the outdoor fireplace on the Ambassador Mansion and Gardens property, Skye and Sean toasted a s’more together and shared it, much like you’d see during the traditional cake cutting.  But, of course, this wasn’t just a traditional s’more… these two had to make it “weird” by replacing the piece of chocolate with a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

Maybe we are just weird too, but this was an amazing, memorable day.
