Saving a pair of Tori Burch shoes from the angry ocean waves is what any photographer dreams of at an engagement shoot right? Let me explain… We headed out to El Matador State Beach in Malibu for the 2nd part of Meghan and Tony’s engagement session. It was higher tide then I had hoped, but I’m a rebel, so we just snuck around the rocks to the dry part of the beach. We were doing ok and all our stuff was set on the dry sand at the top of the beach. Clearly the waves didn’t come that high or else the sand would be wet. WRONG… out of nowhere this ginormous wave came along, trapping all of us against the rocky cliff and tried to steal our shoes and our reflector. (Luckily all our camera gear was safely stowed in our Undefind bag.) Josh’s quick reflexes saved the reflector, Tony’s shoes, my sandals (I had on a pair of rainboots), but only one of Meghan’s Tory Burch flats. OH NO!!… This CANNOT be happening… besides the fact we were all knee high soaked. What on earth about Meghan’s shoe… I would NOT let that shoe disappear… Tony was already in the waves trying to catch it. I gave my camera to Josh… (Looking back, I should have stayed and taken photos, documenting the tragedy, but i was trying to be a friend too) I ran out thigh high into the surf just as Tony managed to catch the shoe. YAY! So you would think we would pack up and leave, tail between our legs for trying to outwit the ocean. HECK no… my couples rock and they were down to climb rocks and whatever else.. I mean they were already soaked, why not get do what we came here to do!
We got some great shots there, and while I was frustrated this had happened, I was happy with the photos we did get! I was even happier the Tory Burch shoe was rescued 😉
The first part of our session was 2 weeks prior out in Ventura County at the Ventura City Hall and Grant Park. We were going to head to the beach then but the weather was not cooperating. (not that our 2nd attempt was any better, the marine layer rolled in about 30 minutes before our session started) We did have a great time. City Hall was empty since it was a weekend and without a soul in sight, we had the exterior all to ourselves.
Check out the photos… we can only imagine if the engagement sessions were this fun, what the wedding will hold! We can’t wait!!!
