While Kelly and Justin met in high school, they didn’t take the next step until they had grown up. Mutual friends brought them back together several years later and have never looked back.

Road trips are in their DNA and they are frequent visitors to the Santa Barbara area from their home in San Jose. One weekend, following a friend’s recommendation they headed to Boathouse for dinner. But, Justin had a little trick up his sleeve… okay maybe it was a ring. After dinner, during sunset, they went for a stroll along the beach nearby and there could not have been a better opportunity to propose.

So, we headed back to the beaches of Santa Barbara for Kelly and Justin’s engagement session. Santa Barbara and the entire Central Coast have some of the most serene locations we have come across. Calm beaches, gorgeous sunsets, amazing people, and delicious food all make Santa Barbara a must visit for us anytime we need to get away.

Waiting for the sun to drop in the sky a bit, we wandered around the Andree Clark Bird Refuge and we could not have asked for a better place to kick things off. Not only was the scenery epic, but it was quiet and we got to hear some amazing stories of how much these two love each other. They really are best friends and speak a lot about how lucky they feel to have been brought into each other’s lives.

Shortly thereafter, we headed around the corner to Butterfly Beach for some sunset photos and let these two relive their engagement evening. We spent every moment we could on this beach and just loved watching these two play in the sand until the surf came all the way to the seawall. It would be so much fun to go on a road trip with these two. Maybe the next time they head out, they will invite us along… 😉
